Title: Seven Sheep Pastures

Oil Painting Original Size – 52x41cm

Living in Carsington means that wherever you go there is animal life, especially sheep.  I wanted to captures a happy flock minding their own business, with a quiet, melancholic rural landscape, characterised by soft, moody tones and a textured surface, using sand mixed with oils.  There is a big hill behind my home called Carsington Pastures, hence the name of this piece.  You’ll find lots of sheep roaming up there in between the tufts of grass and moorland.

The sun (or if you prefer moon) is looking over the flock, keeping them safe and well.

The terrain is gently sloping and painted in rich purples and cool blues, with a rough, almost impasto texture that gives the land a tactile quality. Scattered across the field are several small white sheep with dark faces, providing a sense of scale and life to the otherwise still scene.

The emphasis is on the isolation and calm, whilst the colour palette evokes a cold twilight or early dawn.  The overall effect is hauntingly peaceful.

Artist Bio:
I live in the beautiful village of Carsington in Derbyshire.

My work focuses on creating atmospheric and textured landscapes, but I also create large abstract art pieces.

I am inspired by my surroundings and the fauna and flora of my local reservoir.

My abstract pieces are created with instinct and emotion, always focusing on the drama and intrigue a piece can portray.  Each piece is lovingly crafted, taking care to ensure the mood of a piece is captured through the use of harmonious and contrasting colours.
